Hands near the face in booth portraits

Keep gestures readable without covering the expression.

A hand can connect frames or accidentally hide the person. A brief posing plan makes the gesture feel intentional.

Choose a small gesture

Try a hand resting comfortably near the shoulder or chin before using a large action across the face. Check the completed crop, including fingers near the edge. There is no required pose; offer options that fit the person’s movement and preferences without turning the session into a physical test.

Watch the distance

A hand very close to the camera can occupy much more of the frame than expected. Make a sample and compare the face and gesture together. Avoid covering the lens or leaning toward a precarious support. Keep a neutral portrait available if the creative sequence becomes hard to read.

Let the gesture develop

Repeat a simple action across frames with small changes rather than introducing unrelated poses each time. Read the strip in order and decide whether the hands support the expression. Preserve the original sequence when making an edited version, and let the sitter choose which result to share.
