Storyboard a photo strip before taking it

A four-box sketch can reveal whether the idea fits the frame.

If a group has a particular idea, a quick sketch can save repeated takes. The sketch should make the action understandable without trying to script every expression.

Draw the visible windows

Our method begins with four boxes shaped like the intended layout. Mark where heads and the main prop sit. Add one change per box, such as a look, a gesture or a return to the camera. If the action needs a fifth stage, simplify it or plan a separate session.

Rehearse the largest frame

Act out the pose that occupies the most space and test it in the final crop. Check whether a hand hides a face and whether the edge person remains visible. Keep the device fixed so the storyboard describes a repeatable session rather than four different camera positions.

Let the session vary

Flashroom supplies the four-photo countdown, while the storyboard is an original planning exercise. Use it as a prompt, not a demand for perfect imitation. Keep the unplanned take if it captures an exchange everyone likes. A successful keepsake can differ from its sketch.
