Reuse a Nikon NX Tether camera setup with a settings file

Save and reload a matching body’s supported shooting controls.

For a recurring portrait station, a saved NX Tether settings file can reduce setup drift. Treat it as a starting configuration: Nikon limits loading to settings made with the same camera type, and unsupported controls may not transfer.

Save a known-good setup

Connect the camera, set the shooting controls you need, and use File > Save Settings File in NX Tether. Store the .ncc file with the event’s setup notes, not inside the live capture folder where a booth operator could mistake it for an image.

Load on the matching body

On a later setup, connect the same camera type and use File > Load Settings File. Review the displayed exposure and other controls before taking portraits. Nikon notes that NX Tether can also read Camera Control Pro 2 settings, but only the controls NX Tether supports will load.

Prove the exposure

Take a test image under the actual booth light and inspect its brightness, focus, and color. A loaded profile cannot account for a different room, lens, light placement, or camera firmware. Do not skip the test merely because the settings file loaded without an error.
