Digital booths
Download camera-triggered captures with gPhoto2 tethered mode
Have gPhoto2 wait for a camera-side shutter press and save new files to the computer.
gPhoto2 tethered mode can wait for camera events and download newly captured images, which is useful when the operator prefers the body’s shutter to a computer trigger. Camera and driver support varies, so prove the behavior before designing a booth around it.
Check the camera and driver
Connect the body and use gPhoto2’s camera detection and abilities output to confirm which driver is selected and whether it reports capture support. The project manual warns that abilities come from library data, not a live query of every camera function. Use a supported-model list and an actual test as well.

Start a short tether test
Run the documented capture-tethered mode for a short, bounded test interval and press the camera shutter once. The manual describes tethered capture as waiting for notifications that an object was added and downloading that image to the computer. Keep the test folder empty so the new file is easy to identify.

Verify download and retention
Open the downloaded file and compare its timestamp and appearance with the camera’s recorded frame. If you need the camera to retain a copy, use the documented keep option and verify card contents. Do not enable automatic deletion or unbounded capture loops in a guest-facing setup until the exact camera and storage behavior are tested.
