Make & keep
Check a small strip from a realistic distance
Make faces and text readable where the keepsake will be used.
Zooming into a design is useful for editing but can hide how small it will feel in someone’s hand.
Use an actual-size proof
Print a sample or display it at its intended physical size where possible. Read the caption at a comfortable distance and check that people can distinguish faces. Keep a larger source copy available. Do not conclude that tiny lettering works merely because it is readable at a high zoom level.
Change the composition deliberately
Shorten the caption, simplify the frame or increase the finished size before reducing text further. Compare another proof after each change. If the destination requires a very small object, choose the most important information and leave longer stories for an accompanying card or page.
