Make & keep
Build a hand-turned paper theatre for a four-frame strip
Move a sequence through a window using a simple paper scroll mechanism.
A paper theatre turns four still frames into a slow reveal. Make it from copies and test the path with blank paper first; the roll should move freely without scraping the printed surface.
Cut the window
Make a card frame with one horizontal viewing window. Keep the opening slightly smaller than a frame so the edges stay hidden. Add two side guides behind it, leaving enough clearance for a paper strip to slide.
Prepare the scroll
Join duplicate frames edge to edge on a long paper backing. Leave a blank leader at each end and draw a discreet registration line on the reverse. Thread the paper behind the window and attach each end to a pencil or dowel that can turn by hand.
Advance and reset
Turn one dowel slowly while holding the other under light tension. Stop when the registration line aligns with the window. If the strip skews or wrinkles, widen the guides and reduce tension. Keep the theatre closed when stored so dust and fingers stay off the images.
