Passport photo booths: UK and US rules to check
Select the document-photo process instead of assuming a souvenir strip will be accepted.
A passport photograph is a document submission with country-specific requirements. A decorated strip, beauty effect or playful pose is a different product. Start from the receiving authority’s current instructions and choose a booth or supplier that supports the application route you are using.
For a UK online application
GOV.UK describes a digital photograph or a booth/shop photo code. Its current guidance requires an unaltered colour image, at least 600 pixels wide and 750 tall, with file limits of 50 KB to 10 MB. It also specifies how recent the image must be and what the face and background must show. Read the full official page before capture.

For a US paper application
The US Department of State specifies a 2×2-inch colour photograph for the paper route and gives detailed requirements for head size, recency, background and expression. Its guidance says not to alter images using apps, filters or AI. Online renewal has a separate digital-photo workflow; follow that specific route rather than reusing paper dimensions blindly.

Ask the booth the right question
Confirm the country, document and whether you need a printed photo, downloadable file or submission code. Check that the chosen machine offers that exact mode. A QR code or a normal gallery link is not automatically the document code expected by an authority.
For children or particular access needs, use the authority’s detailed instructions and an appropriate supplier rather than improvising from adult souvenir portraits.
Keep submission separate from the souvenir
Review the result before starting an application and retain the file or code securely. If the authority flags the image, follow its stated reason and correction process. A booth operator’s marketing claim does not remove the authority’s final checks.
Flashroom’s creative booth looks and this library’s decorative templates are intended for souvenirs. They are not presented as passport-compliance tools. The linked official pages, not this summary, are the current source for an application.
