Make & keep
Share a photo without sending its location
Turn off location in Photos sharing options and choose a compatible output for the destination.
A scanned booth strip or family portrait may contain GPS coordinates even when the location is not visible in the image. Photos lets you change what accompanies a share. Review the options for each share rather than assuming a message, AirDrop, or another app removes metadata automatically.
Choose privacy options
Open the photo in Photos and tap Share, then Options near the top of the share sheet. Switch Location off before choosing a recipient or app. Do not assume a previous share setting applies to every new batch.

Select file compatibility
In the same Options view, choose the file behavior that fits the receiver: Automatic lets the destination determine compatibility, Current avoids format conversion, and Most Compatible may convert to JPEG or MOV. All Photos Data sends the original with edit history and metadata, but is available with AirDrop only in the current iOS 27 guide; leave it off for a simple photo copy.

Check the delivered copy
Close Options and finish the share. For a second check, save the delivered copy to a test location and inspect its Info panel before distributing many portraits. Turning off location addresses location data in this share flow; it does not erase location from the library original. If you need to change the stored metadata, open More > Adjust Info > Adjust Location separately.
