Make & keep
Keep a layered GIMP master while exporting a flat booth copy
Save an editable project and a separate share-ready file with clear names.
A layered master lets you change captions, borders, and masks later. The image sent to a printer or guest may need to be a flattened JPEG or PNG. Give these outputs separate names and locations so a quick export does not replace your editable source.
Save the master
Use Save As to create an XCF working file before exporting. GIMP’s native file retains layers and editing structure. Include a version or event label in the filename so the master can be found beside the exported copy.

Export a separate copy
Choose Export As and select the required delivery format. Do not use the same filename as the original scan, and do not flatten the only XCF. If you need a checkpoint that does not change the active image, use Save a Copy.

Reopen both files
Open the XCF and confirm its layer stack is intact. Open the export separately and check the dimensions, background, and text. Keep the filenames paired so the access copy can be traced back to its editable master.
