Make & keep

Crop repeated strip scans to one ratio in GIMP

Use a fixed crop ratio and guides to keep a small archive visually consistent.

When scans from one event need matching proportions, estimate each crop by eye only once: set a fixed ratio, then use guides to place the frame consistently. Work on copies of the scans so that trimming never becomes the sole surviving version.

Set the ratio

Activate Crop and enable a fixed aspect ratio in Tool Options. Enter the intended width-to-height relationship, then drag a crop around the first strip. The ratio constrains its shape; it does not decide where the crop sits.

Place guides

Add guides at the repeated margin positions using Image → Guides, then turn on snapping to guides from the View menu. Adjust the crop edges until the printed borders meet the same guide positions on each scan.

Compare the outputs

Apply the crop to a duplicate, then open the next scan and repeat the same ratio and guide spacing. Compare all four edges at the same zoom. If one original has a wider physical border, document that exception instead of cutting into the image.
