Make & keep
Choose a stable room before framing a treasured photo strip
Check the display environment and use a facsimile when conditions are uncertain.
A frame protects an image from fingers but does not make every room safe for long-term display. Avoid placing a treasured strip near changing heat, damp or bright light, and ask a conservator before mounting an unstable original.
Inspect the location
Avoid windows, radiators, kitchens and bathrooms where sunlight, heat, steam or spills are likely. Look for condensation, musty odours and large temperature swings. If the room has a known leak or damp problem, choose another place.

Choose the object and mount
Use a copy for permanent display when the original is fragile or its materials are unknown. For an original, use a qualified framer or conservator who follows preservation guidance; do not let adhesive touch the image.

Review after installation
Check the frame periodically for condensation, insect activity, discolouration or a change in the paper. Keep a note of when it was installed and where the source copy is stored. If anything changes, remove the display from the risky location and seek specialist advice.
