Keep faces near the centre when using a wide phone camera
Reduce stretched features at the edge of a close group selfie.
A wide phone lens can stretch faces near the frame edge when the camera is close. Increase distance, keep people near the centre and crop later from a high-quality original rather than placing a face in the outer corner.
Create space first
Move the phone farther from the group and use the main camera instead of an ultra-wide lens if the room allows. Keep heads within the central area and ask people at the edges to turn slightly toward the camera.
Check the corners
Take a test and compare faces in the centre and near the edges. If outer faces look wider or pulled, move the phone back or arrange the group in a shallow arc. Avoid using digital correction as a substitute for better distance.
Hold the framing
Mark the phone position and use the same crop for the strip. If the group no longer fits, step back before switching to a wider lens. Verify the final export at print size, where stretched edge faces can be more noticeable.
