Make & keep

Place a booth portrait as a Smart Object in Photoshop

Keep the source image editable while fitting it into a reusable strip layout.

A strip template may need several versions of the same frame with different crops or caption styles. Place the portrait as a Smart Object so its source remains available while you transform it. Keep a layered PSD master, then export a separate delivery image.

Place the portrait

Choose File → Place Embedded or Place Linked. Embedded stores the image in the document; linked refers to a separate file. Position and size the placed Smart Object inside the template frame.

Fit the crop

Use a layer mask or clipping arrangement in the template to show the required window. Transform the Smart Object to adjust the face without replacing the original source pixels. Double-click its thumbnail only when you need to edit the placed content.

Prepare a second version

Duplicate the Smart Object layer and change its crop or caption for another panel. Save the PSD before making flat exports. Reopen the master and confirm the original portrait remains accessible for later reframing.
