Place a photo strip on a vertical canvas

A worked composition keeps the sequence visible in a tall image.

A narrow strip and a tall social image are not the same shape. Giving the strip a surrounding canvas can preserve its proportions while leaving room for a readable caption.

Work through the placement

Our example uses a 1080 by 1920-pixel canvas and a 600 by 1800-pixel strip. Leaving 120 pixels above and below gives the strip 1680 pixels of height. Scaling it proportionally makes its width 560 pixels, leaving 260 pixels on either side when centred. This is layout arithmetic, not a platform’s current upload specification.

Check the real destination

Before publishing, inspect the destination’s current crop and overlay areas. Do not place a name where a profile label or control covers it. Keep an uncropped strip outside the composition. MDN’s fit-and-cover distinction explains why filling a new shape can remove edges.

Evidence: Technical documentation

Make the sequence readable

Review the four faces at the size the audience will actually see. If they become too small, use a closer framing or a simpler surrounding design. Avoid enlarging the same low-resolution source merely to meet a canvas size. Save a separate version for printing, where different dimensions may be appropriate.
