Make & keep
Write a source credit for a family strip
Separate the photographer, owner and supplier of the scan.
A short credit can otherwise blur who made an image and who allowed you to see it.
List the roles you actually know
Record the collection owner, the person who supplied the scan and any known creator or booth information separately. Use unknown where needed. Owning the paper or supplying a scan does not by itself answer every rights question. Ask for the intended use rather than treating a family handoff as permission for public publication.

Keep a usable credit
Include the item identifier and agreed credit wording with the delivery copy. Link to a source record if one exists. Store any permission correspondence privately. If you later change the audience or commercial use, revisit the arrangement rather than assuming the original permission covers every future purpose.
