Make & keep
Scan a strip that does not fit the bed
Document the join when making a combined image.
A long strip may need several captures. A combined access copy should remain traceable to those captures.
Plan overlapping captures
Support the strip without bending or forcing it under the lid. If it fits safely in sections, capture an overlapping area so the views can be aligned. Record their order and save each untouched capture. For a fragile original or unsuitable scanner, use a supported camera setup or ask a specialist for advice.
Evidence: Preservation guidance
Label the combined version
Build the stitched view as a derivative and inspect the overlap for repeated or missing details. Keep the individual captures with it. Explain that the access image combines several captures, especially when measurements or exact frame boundaries matter to someone using the collection.
