Connect a photo strip to a diary entry
Keep the written source and photograph independently identifiable.
A diary can illuminate a portrait, but the connection needs evidence rather than a convenient matching date.
Record the written source
Note the diary identifier, page and exact date as written. Transcribe the relevant passage and distinguish the writer’s own experience from a reported story. Compare the people, occasion and venue mentioned with the photograph. Do not assume every entry about a booth refers to the strip in your hand.
Explain the strength of the link
Mark the relationship as confirmed, probable or uncertain according to the available evidence, and state your reason. Keep a reference image of the diary page where permission allows. Publishing a passage or scan may raise separate rights and privacy questions from displaying the portrait itself.
