Make & keep
Record a family photo strip loan
Keep track of an original that leaves its storage box.
A loan to a relative, exhibition organiser or specialist deserves a clear record even when everyone knows each other.
Agree on the object
List the strip identifier, borrower, purpose and intended return arrangements. Photograph the object’s current condition and its protective enclosure. Consider whether a digital copy could meet the need instead. Do not post a fragile original casually when appropriate handling and transport have not been discussed.
Evidence: Preservation guidance
Close the record on return
Check the returned object against the description without unnecessary handling. Record its return and storage location. Keep correspondence with the catalogue. If there is a problem, document what you observe and seek appropriate specialist advice rather than attempting an improvised repair before the evidence is recorded.
