Make & keep
Add handwritten text to a strip reproduction
Keep modern writing distinct from historical inscriptions.
A handwritten note can personalise a copy without changing the original object.
Write on a separate area
Use a reproduction or a larger backing with room for the note. Test the pen on spare matching material and check smearing before writing the final message. Keep ink away from important original photographs. Choose wording that fits comfortably rather than filling every border with small text.
Record when the note was added
If the portrait is historical, make clear that the caption is modern. Save an image of the finished keepsake while retaining an unannotated master. Future readers should not mistake today’s family explanation for writing made during the original photobooth sitting.
