Make & keep
Keep a version history of a strip catalogue
Make changed identifications traceable.
A growing collection record should show why a name or date changed.
Record meaningful edits
For a substantial identification change, note the old wording, new wording, evidence and date of the change. Keep the item identifier stable. Correct a typo without turning a speculative identification into an unquestioned fact. A short change note is often more useful than a sprawling explanation hidden in a filename.
Preserve periodic readable copies
Export a dated catalogue copy after a research batch and include it in your backup test. Keep access controls appropriate for personal information. When sharing a corrected record, say what changed so readers do not continue citing an obsolete identification from an earlier copy.
