How to set up an iPad photo booth
Choose between playful selfies and an event workflow, then test the complete session.
An iPad’s large preview can help people see the frame together. The useful question is what happens after the shutter: do you need an individual photograph, a decorated strip, a print queue or a guest gallery? Those outputs require different software and preparation.
Understand the built-in app
Apple’s Photo Booth on iPad offers live effects and lets you switch between front and rear cameras. Apple also documents that its photographs are saved in Photos. It is a convenient starting point for playful portraits, but check an event app separately if you need a particular multi-picture print workflow.

Position it for the sitter
Place the camera lens near the intended eye level and support the tablet securely. Test both a standing and a seated portrait. A large screen may tempt everyone to look at their own preview; place a short reminder near the lens if you want direct eye contact.
Move the group rather than constantly changing the tablet angle. Mark a starting position after the frame is right. Check that the support does not block anyone approaching the screen.
Test delivery, not just capture
Run a full session, save the image, send it to another device and open it there. If printing is planned, make the real print. Check what happens when Wi-Fi is unavailable and whether any gallery feature depends on a login. Confirm the specific printer or accessory is supported before buying it.
Prepare for a shared device
Keep unrelated personal apps and notifications out of the guest experience. Establish who can view saved pictures and who will clear them afterwards. Provide a clear way to end a session before the next guest starts. At a small gathering, a host helping with capture and saving may be more dependable than expecting every visitor to learn a new interface.
