An open-air booth faces a shared posing area, usually with a backdrop. An enclosed booth surrounds the sitter with a cabin, curtains or walls. Neither shape is automatically better. Match the arrangement to the room, the number of people in each picture and the atmosphere you want.

The group photograph

Open-air setups can be easier to arrange for several people, but the usable camera frame still has limits. Mark the actual edges after a test portrait. Bring faces close enough to remain readable, and avoid assuming that an extra-wide background guarantees room for another row.

An enclosed booth can encourage a more intimate sequence. Check whether its seat is removable and how much entrance space it provides. Some guests may prefer being photographed without a surrounding crowd watching.

Control the background

With an open setup, room lights, passing guests and nearby furniture can enter the picture. Separate the background from the queue and keep its edges out of the frame. Enclosure can simplify those problems, but it also changes the light and how people position themselves. Judge a test image, not the outside of the cabinet.

Make arrival and exit obvious

Place the queue beside the posing area rather than across it. Show where guests start, collect their print and move away. In a cabin, leave the entrance usable throughout the session. With an open camera, ensure the route behind the backdrop does not become a shortcut through your photographs.

Choose by the event’s needs

For a group-heavy party, test the open-air frame with the likely group size. For a quieter portrait experience, consider a cabin or screened corner. Ask the supplier how the setup adapts for seated guests and different heights. Photo delivery, staff and print limits are separate booking questions; enclosure alone does not tell you what is included.
