What size should a photo booth backdrop be?
Measure the camera’s frame, group width and access space instead of buying by a universal number.
There is no single backdrop dimension that fits every booth. The required size changes with camera position, framing and the number of people. Make a test with the actual equipment before ordering a background or deciding whether the venue corner is large enough.
Mark the visible frame
Place the camera where it will stay. Ask people to occupy the widest likely group arrangement, then save a test picture. Mark the left, right, top and bottom limits that appear in the photograph. The backdrop needs to cover those visible edges with room for small changes in guest position.
Check a seated portrait separately. Tilting the camera down can bring a lower backdrop edge or the floor into view.
Leave operating space
The frame width is not the equipment footprint. Include the support, the posing area, cables, printer access and a route for entering and leaving. Draw those zones on a simple floor plan. A large backdrop fitted tightly between furniture can still produce an unusable guest experience.
Test more than one camera angle
If the tablet or camera will change height for different guests, test the highest and lowest planned positions. A background that fills the first portrait may reveal its edge after a small adjustment. Wide-angle framing can also bring more of the room into the picture.
Keep the camera at a repeatable position once the coverage works. Moving it during the event means repeating the size check.
Ask the supplier for a complete footprint
For a rental, request both backdrop dimensions and the space required to operate the whole booth. For a DIY setup, measure the actual stand when assembled rather than only the fabric width. Confirm clearance and fixing rules with the venue.
Use those measurements to choose or make the background. A “standard” product size is a starting point for comparison; your saved test and floor plan decide whether it is sufficient.
