Digital booths
Why two booth timestamps can disagree without either clock being wrong
Use Exif date fields and UTC offsets to reconcile image order across cameras.
A photo’s visible file date, embedded capture time and the computer’s import time can differ. When two booth cameras or a capture computer use different time zones, filenames alone can produce a misleading sequence. Exif provides fields for capture time and, in newer versions, a separate offset; not every file or application preserves both.
Separate capture time from file time
CIPA’s Exif specification distinguishes DateTimeOriginal, the time the original image data was generated, from related file-information timestamps. It also defines an OffsetTimeOriginal field for the UTC offset. A timestamp without its offset is not enough to reconstruct a globally unambiguous instant when devices were configured in different time zones.

Audit the full path
Take one test image after confirming the camera clock, then inspect its embedded date fields and the file-system creation or modification times after tether transfer. Compare these with the computer clock and note the zone each system uses. If an application strips or rewrites metadata, keep a copy of the original capture for later reconciliation.

Sort with an explicit rule
For a multi-camera event, synchronize device clocks before capture and record the intended time zone. Use a consistent metadata-aware sort field rather than assuming file names or copy times are the exposure time. If the offset field is absent, preserve that uncertainty instead of silently assigning a zone; export timestamps should not be presented as a verified capture instant.
