An anti-flicker setting can improve capture consistency under some modulated lights while also changing the timing of a camera sequence. If guests notice that the camera responds unpredictably after a settings change, compare the trigger cadence with the option enabled and disabled under controlled conditions. The behavior is model-specific and can affect both release lag and throughput.

Measure the interval, not just the image

Record a short sequence with fixed trigger spacing and note the time between each trigger and capture. Repeat with the camera’s anti-flicker function changed, keeping the light source and exposure settings constant. A longer or irregular interval that appears only with the feature enabled points to camera timing behavior rather than printer or export latency.

Know the documented tradeoff

Canon warns that its anti-flicker mode can lengthen shutter-release lag, slow continuous shooting and make intervals irregular. It also states that its implementation cannot detect every flicker frequency. These are specific limitations of that camera feature, not a universal behavior for all bodies; consult the installed camera’s manual before attributing a delay to anti-flicker processing.

Choose the setting from a full test

Run an entire booth sequence under the actual lamps and check both banding or colour changes and guest-facing timing. If disabling the function restores cadence but reintroduces inconsistent frames, test a fixed shutter speed or a different compatible lighting setup. Keep a written settings record so a future camera reset does not silently alter the capture rhythm.
