Make & keep
Make an annual photobooth portrait series
A repeatable arrangement lets small changes remain visible.
An annual strip gives the next photograph a relationship to the last one. You do not need to reproduce every detail perfectly, but a few consistent choices make the sequence easier to compare.
Choose what stays fixed
Our project fixes the camera height, approximate framing and first pose. Keep a small setup note and a picture of the arrangement. Allow the remaining frames to change with the year rather than forcing the same expression or clothes into every session.
Label changes honestly
Record the capture date and note if you changed the app, camera or layout. A different filter can create an apparent difference that belongs to processing rather than the person. Keep a plainly rendered source version where possible alongside any stylised strip.
Read it as a portrait project
Alan Adler’s archive shows how repeated booth checks can become a life sequence, according to the operator’s account. Our annual exercise borrows the broad idea of repetition, not the technician’s exact routine. It is a keepsake project, not a measure of health, ageing or personal progress.
