Make & keep
Write a photo strip caption with facts and memories
Keep the date clear and the personal story attributed.
A caption can do two jobs: identify the session and explain why someone kept it. Separate those jobs so the memory remains personal without making an uncertain detail look documented.
Start with what is established
Our first line records names, place and date where known. If a date is approximate, keep the approximation visible. A second line can preserve a recollection, such as a shared joke or the reason for the outing, attributed to the person who supplied it.
Avoid speaking for every face
Describe the occasion rather than diagnosing an expression. Instead of saying everyone was delighted, record that it was the evening after a graduation or a visit with cousins. An ordinary fact often carries more lasting meaning than a generic claim about how the people felt.
Make a layout copy
Flashroom provides the strip; keep the detailed record outside the image if a short caption fits better. Save an uncaptioned version and a caption file together. Check names with the people involved before printing a batch or sharing the story publicly.
