Make & keep
Make a two-image thaumatrope from photo-strip copies
Spin two cropped details into one optical pairing.
A thaumatrope pairs two images on opposite sides of a spinning card. It can make a face and prop appear together or pair two expressions. Work from copies, centre both images on the same axis and label the result as a paper illusion.
Choose the pair
Select two simple images that can share one centre point, such as a face and a hat. Crop duplicate prints to equal circles or squares. Mark the top of each image so they are not rotated in opposite directions. Keep important details away from the edge.
Build the spinner
Glue the copies back to back on stiff card, aligning the marked tops. Punch one hole on each side and tie a short loop of string through them, or attach elastic loops to opposite edges. Keep the card balanced so it spins without wobbling.
Test the illusion
Twist the strings, pull them taut and let the card spin. If the images do not combine, rotate one copy half a turn or move the subject toward the centre. The result is a visual blend, not a moving photograph; record which two source frames you used.
