Check location information before sharing a photo strip

The visible caption and the file’s embedded data deserve separate checks.

A strip’s caption may omit a location while the source photographs retain location metadata. Decide what the recipient should receive and inspect the actual sharing route rather than assuming the visible picture tells the whole story.

Apple’s documented controls

Apple’s personal-safety guide explains removing or withholding photo location metadata in Photos on iPhone and iPad. Those instructions apply to that sharing flow. An app’s composed output or another transfer method can behave differently and should be checked separately.

Make a destination copy

Our routine keeps the original privately and prepares a copy for the intended audience. Inspect its available information in a suitable photo viewer, then test the same transfer method you plan to use. Check the received file, not just the preview on the sending device.

Read the picture too

Metadata removal does not conceal a street sign, school name, ticket or handwritten address visible inside a frame. Look at those details with the other people in the picture before public sharing. Keep this decision separate from whether you want a location in your private family catalogue.
