Plan a short photobooth session with children
Simple choices make the session easier to understand and keep.
A short portrait session works better when the child knows what is about to happen. Use one clear action and a comfortable setup instead of expecting them to remember four complicated instructions.
Show the sequence before starting
Our rehearsal is a wave, a smile and a quiet look at the camera. Let the child try a test and see the result with their accompanying adult. Keep the support stable and avoid asking them to climb onto improvised furniture to reach the frame.
Let the expression belong to them
Offer a choice between a small gesture and simply sitting. A neutral face is not a failed keepsake. If the session is uncomfortable, stop rather than extending it to obtain a particular expression. Choose props that do not cover the eyes or create difficulty holding the pose.
Agree what happens afterwards
Review the pictures with the responsible adult and decide which may be kept or shared. A private family copy is different from a public gallery. Flashroom’s countdown gives the session a sequence; the adults still choose the arrangement and audience.
