Inside the booth
Wrinkles in a photobooth backdrop
Decide whether the texture helps the portrait.
A folded backdrop can look atmospheric or distracting. Compare it behind an actual face before trying to make every surface perfectly smooth.
Inspect the test portrait
Place the backdrop as intended and capture a representative sample. Look for folds that create a line through a head or compete with the expression. Do not judge the fabric only from across the room. A textured surface may suit the mood when it remains quieter than the person.
Adjust safely
Follow the material’s care instructions if smoothing it, and use suitable supports. Keep fabric away from hot lights and avoid blocking an exit. Try a small change in positioning or lighting before adding more tension to an improvised frame that may not hold it securely.
Check the chosen treatment
Inspect the final strip, including any monochrome or vintage effect. A fold can become more prominent after the treatment changes contrast. Keep the setup note and approved sample for the helper, and retest after the backdrop is moved, folded or rehung before another session.
