Make & keep
Merge duplicate strip scans in Photos on iPhone
Review matching images together, then merge only copies that are truly redundant.
A photo library can collect the same booth frame more than once after imports, downloads, or repeated saves. Photos groups detected duplicates so you can merge redundant copies while keeping the highest-quality image and relevant data.
Find the detected pairs
Open Photos and tap Collections, then scroll to Utilities and tap Duplicates. The collection appears only when Photos has identified duplicates; its absence does not mean every visually similar frame is absent from the library. Detection runs automatically and can take time, so check again after a large import rather than repeatedly re-importing the same folder.

Compare before merging
Open a set and compare resolution, crop, edits, and capture details. Near-identical frames from a booth sequence are not necessarily duplicates: a blink, expression, or small pose change can make two pictures distinct. Merge a set only when the images represent the same capture and you are comfortable reducing them to one library item.

Merge selected copies
Tap Merge beside one set, then confirm Merge [number] Items. To handle several sets, tap Select, choose sets (or Select All), tap Merge, and confirm. Photos combines the highest-quality image with relevant data; the other items move to Recently Deleted. Apple says duplicates are available from iOS 16 onward, and recently deleted items remain recoverable for 30 days.
