Make & keep

Make a newly installed caption font appear in GIMP

Install the font through your operating system, then refresh GIMP’s font list.

A designed caption may use a typeface that is absent from GIMP’s picker. Install the font at system level or in a supported user font folder, then refresh the font list. Do this before duplicating caption layers across a strip so every panel uses the same face.

Install outside the project

Use the font manager provided by your operating system and install a font file you are permitted to use. Avoid copying a font file into a shared booth project and assuming GIMP will discover it automatically.

Refresh GIMP

Open the Fonts dialog and use its refresh control, or restart GIMP if the font still does not appear. Search by the family name shown by the font manager, then create a small test caption before replacing finished text.

Check the saved file

Review the caption on the target computer if the project will be handed off. If the font is missing there, substitute a locally available typeface or export a separate flattened proof while retaining editable text in the master.
