Can you enlarge a small photo strip?

Choose a practical output size before inventing missing detail.

A tiny scan or old download can be precious without supporting a large sharp print. Decide what you want from an enlargement and preserve the original.

Check the source

Inspect the original at a useful magnification. Look for compression blocks, scanner blur and fine details already missing. If the physical strip survives, consider making a better copy before enlarging a poor digital derivative. Never discard the old file simply because a new editor reports larger dimensions.

Make a modest proof

Enlarge a duplicate to one proposed print size and examine it at the normal viewing distance. A larger grid of pixels does not establish that new facial details are historically accurate. If you use generative restoration, label that copy clearly and keep it separate from an unaltered archival scan.

Let the display support the picture

A smaller image with generous surrounding space may look better than a heavily enlarged face. Try a mat or an album layout before forcing a wall-size result. Keep a note of the source, editing method and approved print size so later copies do not quietly become evidence of invented detail.

Take the next picture.
