Inside the booth
Analogue or digital photobooth?
The cabinet’s age does not tell you how its pictures are made.
A curtain, four exposures and a paper strip can belong to very different systems. Distinguish the capture, processing and output before deciding what kind of booth you are using.
Three useful questions
What records the light: photographic material or a digital sensor? What produces the visible image: a chemical sequence or software? What leaves the machine: a photographic strip or a printed digital file? A hybrid arrangement can mix stages, so one label may not describe everything.
The experience and the mechanism
AUTOFOTO documents machines with a paper transport and chemical baths. A digital booth can instead provide image selection, layout and printer output. Neither a monochrome result nor a several-minute wait proves chemical processing. If you care about the medium, ask the operator or consult the machine’s documentation.

What a phone booth can reproduce
A phone app reproduces the timed session, frames and visual treatment. It can produce a file you print elsewhere. It is not a pocket mechanical darkroom, and the printed result depends on the printer and paper you choose. Select a physical booth for its place and process, or a phone app for convenience; the experiences have overlapping features rather than identical materials.
